Anders did it and it worked pretty much as described in the article. From what I could see, it took about 340 deaths to get it to level 20. As for the time, it should be less than 1 hour. If it kills you in 2 or 3 hits (if you don't have any armor or have some sup runes), then it doesn't take more than 5 to 8 seconds between each resurrect from a hero. 5sec x 340times=1700sec=28.33 minutes . If we say 10 sec, 56.66minutes. So less than 1 hour.

Regarding dire pet........I have a black moa bird from defeating Zoe in the Norm fighting tournament which gives you Zoes quest. I remember it being a long quest and when I went to charm the bird it was already a level 20. Isn't that a dire pet?

I dont know if u can get dire pet directly. I only know that u can get certain elder pets. The easiest is a Elder Wolf in southern Shiverpeaks. Me and Katja also managed to tame Elder White Tiger. It was tricky as we had to steal it from ranger boss in Melandru`s Hope. There is also an Elder Rift Lurker that can be stolen from a boss in Gayla Hatchery, but its really difficult coz boss must be killed by other foes if u want to cap his crab .
I made dire pet (eagle) by using build that made pet take less damage, as I didnt want to death lvl him.
