I gave up for now, keeping an eye on twitter until they've patched the login issues.

I managed to get to the step where you can create a new char after almost 2 hours of trying. I decided to create a new character. I created a human mesmer. Got to see the itroduction scene but the screen went black after that and the area wouldn't load. I think I'm giving up for now (after 3,5 hrs), trying again in the morning.

Finally got in for about half an hour, then got the boot. Gameplay seems fun if a bit chaotic with hundreds of other ppl in the same area, tho that fixes itself once the game launches.
Biggest issue by far at least on my end was the horrible lag. Died several times without even seeing my char get hit at all, and 3 times game lost connection to server for about half a minute before it re-synced.

I managed to log on, finally. Tim did, too. I hope it's better today. Yesterday was a huge disappointment.
Again, if anyone wants a guild invite, talk to either me or Tim in game.

I was able to play last night from midnight to 3am. I didn't have any problems other than it not looking as good on my machine as on my friend's that I used for the 1st beta but that's no surprise as his machine is a real beast. I'd planned to join y'all on the Europe server but after reading about the trouble with changing servers some folks were having on the FB page I just decided to stay put on the "overflow area for the Fort Aspenwood." Hope they get the guild thing worked on soon since it is GUILD Wars after all

After Friday's letdown had massive fun this weekend. Only thing that overall felt a bit too 'standard mmo' were the events. Events themselves are a big improvement but too often they boil down to the standard 'kill x of that mob, collect x of that item' . Also saw plenty of events that WERE original and lots of fun so I'll live with the boring ones Most awesome event I ran into was yesterday in Norn lvl 5-10 area, called the Frozen Maw. Event with several stages at the end of which we got to fight the Chief shaman of the Sons of Svanir who drew power directly from Jormag he claimed. Enormous battle followed, even with about 40-50 ppl there it took 20-30 minutes I think for it to go down. Once it died you really saw major changes to the area as a result. Great stuff! Ow and the end event for the beta was fun:

Yeah, weekend's over. It was frustrating when we couldn't log on and I didn't like open areas. The worst thing was too many players attacking a single foe. I couldn't even see the poor beast over all the players on top of each other. It was pretty much impossible to place wards (as a necro using a staff). I couldn't even see the foe's exact location. I loved doing quests connected to the personal story though. So I'd say all in all, it's a lovely game and I'm really going to enjoy playing it. Here's to Legendary survivors in GW2 .

My impressions were also positive in most areas. But it did have its lows for me also. The thing I disliked the most were mobs of players in the event areas. Every time there was an event nearby ppl started to flock there within minute. It would not be bad if the mobs were like 10-15 players big, but most of the time they were 50+ players . It made any kind of normal play impossible. I played a guardian and could not see what to attack half of the time . And with so many players in one area lag was also unavoidable. It also meant that event scaled to unreasonable high. So some bosses required like 30 min to kill, as Stefan already stated. The same boss with only 10 players in the early morning when we did the event for the second time went down in 15 minutes which is quite reasonable imo. I know this will represent a problem only the first month or so but still. Guess we'll try to play it when there are not so many ppl online if possible (mornings were quite nice actually). Second thing was the overflow system. It was hard for me and Kat to play together even though we were in same party. Almost every time we were put in the overflow we ended up in different servers, which was really annoying . I hope they will fix that. The rest of the game was great for me. We didn't have to adapt a lot as we already played it at Gamescom and thus knew what to expect. Areas are beautiful, fighting can be really fun and neither 2 difficult or 2 easy. We didn't die often and when we did it was most likely due to overconfidence in some events that we tried to overturn just by ourselves . Also guardian and necro really worked nice together. I also tried out a thief but didn't like it 2 much as it did next to none damage with auto attack on pistols which would be my fist weapon of choice for my main hand. It could be due to the low lvl but I still decided to roll engineer on my Charr instead of thief (that might still change with the next betas as I will most likely retry thief again eventually). We also played a bit with guild options but could not try out anything serious in the limited time we had. Hope the guild will be able to continue in the next beta so we can see the results of the choices we made this weekend. Also I would like to thank all of u who joined the guild and contributed all the influence for me to dabble with . Almost forgot about WvW, which we also tried out together with Art and Tanque. It was more or less the same as PvE just with the added bonus of being able to kill other ppl ;D. The areas were huge and nicely done. U could easily avoid fighting other players if u wanted and focus on NPC's and support your sever by guarding supply lines form nasty creatures or lonely hostile players wandering around searching for something to kill. We also claimed an outpost and thus imprinted name of our guild in the Mists . Tim

Had the same issue playing with a friend on the overflow servers. I cannot imagine it will be hard for them to add a feature resembling the district system in GW 1 for overflow servers. Either allowing players to pick an overflow server manually or automatically make sure teamed up players end up on the same one.
As for guild options, have you seen anything that would allow forming alliances like in the first game?

I had incredible luck with the beta. I started playing around 6 am and got to second human area quite fast. Because of the loading bug, I had to change servers to an American one. Thanks to all that (and huge popularity of charr/norn areas), I played with very few other people and it was amazing. On Sunday I tried both charr and norn, but the zergs sucked all the fun out of it.
Combat, compared to other MMOs I tried is really great – with the right setup of skills. I really liked necro staff skillset and how every minion has its secondary use. The whole system combines simplicity (easy to learn concepts) with diversity (a lot of options with the right weapon/skill choice) really well.
The biggest problem I see with the game right now are those huge group of players, steamrolling everything it their way. Hopefully, after the game launches and guesting will work, everything should be fine. The wait for the release is probably far from over, but I can’t wait for the next BWE.

Well I guess being in an overflow area and no one to roll with spared me a lot of the problems it seems. When a "large" group came through where I was at, that group was 10 maybe 15 at the most and it really seemed to add to the experience, not take away. I did get in on a fight against a wasp queen or some such where I experienced the whole lagging like crazy and being one hit killed by an unseen enemy deal. That wasn't fun ofc but the really annoying part of that was it seemed there was a lack of folks trying to rez others. It could be that the sudden deaths discouraged this as I tried several times to rez others after deploying my trusty flame turret, only to find myself in need of a rez without even getting half way on the fallen player. But all in all I really liked moving about in the world with others coming and going as they and I pleased. Now the story line, which I severely disliked at first, I loved! They have improved the NPCs so much imo. At no point did the feelings of loathing and contempt come forth as they did for Prince Rurik, King Addledbrain, and others in the Profs story line except for the bad guys which is how it should be.
